Mombasa County is seeking a skilled Emergency Medical Technician to join their emergency response team. This position offers an opportunity to make a life-saving impact in one of Kenya’s busiest metropolitan areas.

Position Overview:

The successful candidate will serve as a crucial frontline emergency healthcare provider, delivering immediate medical care in pre-hospital settings and ensuring safe patient transport.

Required Qualifications:

  • – Diploma in Emergency Medical Services, Emergency Medical Technology, or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution

OR

  • – Valid certificate in Emergency Medical Technician – Advanced Course or Emergency Medical Services Instructor Course from:
  •   – Kenya Red Cross Society or
  •   – Kenya Council of Emergency Medical Technicians

Educational Requirements:

  • – Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade C
  • – C+ (plus) in Biology or Chemistry
  • – D in English or Kiswahili

OR

  • – Valid Emergency Medical Technician – Basic Certificate

Additional Requirements:

  • – Valid class BCE driver’s license with Public Service Vehicle authorization
  • – Current practicing license from a recognized licensing institution
  • – Strong physical fitness and ability to work under pressure
  • – Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Key Responsibilities:

1. Emergency Response:

  • – Operate Intermediate Life Support units as primary care provider
  • – Serve as ambulance operator when required
  • – Respond rapidly and efficiently to emergency calls

2. Patient Care:

  • – Conduct thorough patient assessments
  • – Perform comprehensive history taking
  • – Develop and implement emergency care interventions
  • – Monitor and reassess patient outcomes
  • – Administer authorized medications safely

3. Medical Procedures:

  • – Initiate basic intravenous therapies
  • – Provide autonomous Basic Life Support interventions
  • – Execute supervised Advanced Cardiac Life Support interventions
  • – Perform emergency medical procedures within scope of practice

4. Documentation and Records:

  • – Maintain detailed Patient Care Reports
  • – Ensure accurate and timely documentation of all interventions
  • – Keep organized patient records
  • – Complete necessary incident reports

5. Case Management:

  • – Identify and manage various emergency medical cases
  • – Make appropriate patient referrals to medical facilities
  • – Coordinate specimen transfer to appropriate facilities
  • – Facilitate expert consultations when needed
