Job Description
The Team Sales Lead will play a pivotal role in scaling SumsPOS’s presence across Kenya by building, training, and managing a high-performing direct sales team. This role is ideal for field-smart professionals who are passionate about helping local businesses thrive while growing their own leadership capabilities.
As a Team Sales Lead, you’ll be responsible for recruiting and coaching a team of 25 commission-based sales agents, driving field activations, managing performance, and ensuring monthly sales targets are consistently met or exceeded. This role offers significant growth potential, with clear pathways to senior management positions within the commercial division.
Key Responsibilities
- Recruitment & Onboarding: Source, recruit, and onboard 25+ sales agents, ensuring they are aligned with company values and sales objectives.
- Sales Management: Plan, organize, and execute field sales activities including product activations, live demos, and customer acquisition drives.
- Team Leadership: Conduct regular coaching, mentoring, and performance reviews to help agents maximize productivity and sales conversion rates.
- Performance Monitoring: Track daily sales activities, compile reports, and present performance metrics to management using basic CRM tools and Excel/Google Sheets.
- Customer Advocacy: Act as the local champion of the SumsPOS brand, providing on-the-ground customer support, collecting feedback, and ensuring positive customer experiences to drive retention.
- Target Ownership: Take full ownership of monthly acquisition targets and key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive team success and business growth.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2+ years of proven experience in field sales, sales team leadership, agent recruitment, or direct sales (experience in telecommunications, fintech, FMCG, or insurance is highly desirable).
- Strong leadership and people management skills with the ability to inspire, coach, and retain high-performing teams.
- Proficiency in basic technology tools including Google Forms, WhatsApp groups, Excel/Sheets, and CRM systems.
- Proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets in previous roles.
- Fluent in both English and Kiswahili, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Results-driven, self-motivated, and comfortable working independently to achieve goals.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working directly with small businesses, informal sector merchants, or micro-enterprises in Kenya.
- Understanding of the retail technology or digital payments industry.
- Previous involvement in scaling or managing agent networks or community-based sales teams.
