Driver Job Description

The Driver is responsible for facilitating safe, efficient, and timely transportation of staff, visitors, and resources. The role ensures vehicle safety, operational readiness, and compliance with organizational policies while supporting field operations and program activities. This position involves vehicle maintenance, monitoring, reporting, and assisting in the coordination of transportation for events, donor visits, and field activities. The driver ensures vehicles are clean, serviceable, and compliant with traffic laws while maintaining logs and records for fleet management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide timely facilitation of staff, visitors, and donors to and from the office and field locations.
  • Ensure the safety of staff and vehicles during all journeys.
  • Coordinate additional vehicles and drivers for major events, campaigns, and evaluations.
  • Maintain vehicle cleanliness and operational readiness, including minor repairs and preventive maintenance.
  • Keep vehicle logbooks updated and ensure proper documentation of fuel, repairs, and maintenance.
  • Follow fleet management procedures for vehicle use, parking, and spare key custody.
  • Prepare monthly vehicle reports and submit invoices or fuel returns to fleet management for processing.
  • Assist in community mobilization and delivery of parcels or official mails.
  • Serve as bank agent for authorized transactions when required.
  • Comply with all traffic laws, organizational policies, and safety procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors or designees.

Required Qualifications

  • KCSE Certificate.
  • Minimum 3 years’ driving experience with a valid driver’s license for classes B, C1, C, CE, D3, CD.
  • Residence in Mbooni Subcounty, Kalawa Subdivision of Makueni County.
  • Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance and operational safety.
  • Computer literate with working knowledge of MS Office.
  • Mandatory attachments: Current valid driver’s license, letter from area chief, and copy of National ID (both sides).

Preferred Qualifications

  • First Aid and safety certifications.
  • Defensive driving certification.
  • Prior experience working in an NGO setup.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Commitment to high ethical standards and Christian faith alignment with World Vision values.
