Mombasa County is seeking experienced Theatre Nurses to join their surgical team. This position offers an opportunity to work in a modern operating theatre environment, contributing to high-quality surgical care delivery.

Position Overview:

The successful candidates will play vital roles in managing operating theatre operations and ensuring optimal patient care during the entire perioperative process.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • – Diploma in one of the following:
  1.   – Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing
  2.   – Kenya Registered Nursing
  3.   – Kenya Registered Nursing in Mental Health and Psychiatry
  • – Higher Diploma in Pre-operative Nursing or equivalent from a recognized institution
  • – Nursing Registration Certificate from the Nursing Council of Kenya
  • – Valid practicing license from the Nursing Council of Kenya
  • – Minimum two (2) years’ experience in Peri-Operative/Theatre Nursing

Key Responsibilities:

1. Theatre Management:

  • – Oversee daily operations of assigned operating room or unit
  • – Collaborate with hospital administration on theatre layout and design
  • – Ensure optimal functionality of theatre environment
  • – Manage theatre schedules and staff coordination

2. Patient Care:

  • – Implement comprehensive nursing care across all operative stages:
  1.   – Pre-operative preparation and assessment
  2.   – Intra-operative support and monitoring
  3.   – Post-operative care and recovery
  • – Handle complex surgical cases with precision
  • – Monitor patient vital signs and maintain detailed records

3. Quality and Safety:

  • – Enforce strict infection prevention and control protocols
  • – Maintain sterile field during procedures
  • – Implement and monitor safety guidelines
  • – Address medico-legal issues in surgical procedures
  • – Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations

4. Equipment and Resource Management:

  • – Monitor and maintain theatre equipment
  • – Ensure availability of essential surgical supplies
  • – Conduct regular inventory checks
  • – Report and follow up on equipment maintenance
  • – Coordinate with procurement for supplies

5. Team Collaboration:

  • – Work effectively with surgical teams
  • – Coordinate with other departments
  • – Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings
  • – Mentor junior nursing staff
  • – Maintain professional communication channels
