Job Description
The Accountant I will handle day-to-day financial operations, including cash handling, bank reconciliations, ledger management, and preparation of management reports. This role is ideal for candidates seeking Accountant I opportunities in a state corporation setting, providing exposure to finance processes, statutory compliance, and budgeting within Kenya’s agricultural sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare payment vouchers and process imprest and travel advances.
- Receive cash, bank deposits, balance, and reconcile cash books daily.
- Post payments and receipts in the cashbook accurately.
- Ensure safe custody of cash, payment vouchers, and accountable documents.
- Prepare and update creditor, debtor, and general ledgers; liaise with customers for billing information.
- Perform monthly bank account reconciliations and process statutory deductions payments.
- Maintain accurate prepayments, accruals, and provision schedules.
- Check the Vote Book and ensure budgetary controls are observed.
- Review monthly, quarterly, and annual management reports, including variance analyses.
- Provide input in the preparation of budget estimates and conduct below-the-line analysis accounts.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of three (3) years served as Accountant II.
- Bachelor’s degree in Commerce (Accounting/Finance), Finance, Business Management (Accounting/Finance), or equivalent.
- Certified Public Accountants (CPA) Part I or equivalent qualification.
- Proficiency in computer applications, including accounting software and Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in accounting roles within state corporations or financial institutions.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and work collaboratively with finance teams.
- Experience in administrative jobs in Nairobi or finance coordination roles.
