Assistant Director Accounts jobs in Kenya

This Assistant Director Accounts vacancy in Nairobi is responsible for leading accounting operations, ensuring financial compliance, and strengthening internal controls. The role reports to the Director, Finance and Accounts and supports strategic financial management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement accounting policies, strategies, and financial frameworks.
  • Interpret financial policies and manage statutory deductions including PAYE and VAT.
  • Establish and maintain effective internal control systems.
  • Coordinate reconciliation of general ledger, creditors ledger, and cashbook accounts.
  • Ensure timely and accurate posting of revenue receipts.
  • Oversee preparation of payment vouchers, cheque books, and cash records.
  • Monitor compliance with government accounting regulations and circulars.
  • Maintain debtor accounts and track payment collections.
  • Respond to audit queries and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Ensure timely filing of tax returns and compliance with statutory requirements.
  • Develop risk mitigation strategies and business continuity plans.
  • Mentor and coach finance staff to enhance performance.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field.
  • Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 12 years’ experience, including 3 years in senior finance roles.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA-K) or equivalent qualification.
  • Membership in ICPAK or ACCA in good standing.
  • Leadership course lasting at least four weeks from a recognized institution.
  • Proficiency in accounting systems and ERP tools for finance jobs in Kenya.
  • Strong analytical, reporting, and financial management skills.

  • Experience in public sector financial management and compliance.
  • Strong background in audit, tax, and regulatory reporting.
  • Proven leadership in managing high-performing finance teams.
