Chair, Emergency Medicine

The Aga Khan University’s Faculty of Health Sciences in East Africa is seeking an exceptional leader to fill the role of Chair, Department of Emergency Medicine. This position offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of emergency medicine education and practice in the region.
Position Overview:
Reporting to the Dean of the Medical College, the Chair will provide comprehensive leadership in clinical, academic, administrative, and research aspects of the Emergency Medicine department. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing departmental strategies aligned with the University’s vision and mission, while also serving as a key liaison between the department, other AKU units, and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- – Provide strategic vision and leadership for the department
- – Develop and mentor faculty and staff
- – Oversee clinical programs and ensure high-quality patient care
- – Drive research initiatives and secure funding
- – Manage departmental resources and budgets
- – Collaborate with other departments and external partners
Requirements:
- – Eligible for appointment as Assistant Professor or higher
- – MBChB or equivalent degree with postgraduate qualification in Emergency Medicine
- – Recognized specialist in Emergency Medicine or PhD holder
- – Proven track record in academic leadership roles
- – Strong understanding of healthcare economics and management
- – Demonstrated success in research, including publications and grant acquisition
- – Experience in developing clinical programs focused on quality and patient satisfaction
- – National or international reputation in the field of Emergency Medicine
