Credit Analyst – Role Overview
The Credit Analyst at Family Bank is responsible for the assessment, approval, and monitoring of credit facilities to mitigate risk and ensure compliance with bank lending policies and Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) prudential guidelines. This role involves critical evaluation of credit applications, training and guidance of credit staff, and contribution to system and policy improvements. Key Responsibilities
- Assess and approve credit facility applications within assigned discretion limits, ensuring full adherence to policies, and escalate recommendations for approvals beyond personal limits.
- Analyze credit applications, including consumer and corporate loans, critically, providing prompt, accurate decisions in line with CBK prudential guidelines.
- Ensure service standards and turnaround times (TAT) on facility approvals are maintained, with appropriate escalation in case of delays.
- Review and monitor the performance of the loan book to identify potential risks and growth opportunities.
- Conduct training and coaching sessions for consumer credit officers and provide leadership to head office credit staff.
- Maintain and update staff facilities in the Flexcube system, ensuring accuracy in disbursement, loan amounts, interest rates, tenors, and collateral records.
- Provide guidance on credit policies and procedures, ensuring consistent application across credit teams, business units, and branches.
- Participate in system improvement and implementation processes, providing user requirements, feedback, and critique to enhance operational efficiency.
- Prepare facility letters, security/collateral documentation checklists, and ensure compliance with all internal and regulatory requirements.
- Document and annually update procedures for the Credit Analyst role to ensure consistent knowledge transfer and operational excellence.
- Perform any other official duties as may be allocated from time to time.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounts, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Professional credit or accounting qualifications are advantageous.
- Minimum of three (3) years’ practical experience in banking with proven results in credit assessment and recovery.
- Experience in banking and a legal background is an added advantage.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial statements and make sound credit decisions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, internet, and email applications.
- High integrity, reliability, and ability to work independently.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to mentor, support, and develop talent within the Credit Analysis Unit.
- Experience with credit policy development, system improvements, and procedural documentation.
- Knowledge of consumer and corporate banking products, risk assessment frameworks, and credit decision-making processes.
