Job Description
The Credit Controller will be responsible for managing the full spectrum of accounts receivable functions to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant financial operations. Reporting to the GM – Finance, the role oversees a team of Receivables Accountants and Claims Officers and ensures that Equity Afya maintains strong cash flow positions, effective debt management systems, and controlled financial exposure.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong analytical skills, strategic decision-making capabilities, and a proven ability to develop effective credit management structures. This role requires a deep understanding of financial regulations, health-sector credit practices, and risk mitigation strategies. The Credit Controller also works closely with other departments, including Business Development and Customer Success, to strengthen customer relationships and ensure timely collections.
The position plays a critical leadership role in shaping and executing the company’s credit policies, overseeing reconciliation processes, and supporting internal and external audits. Candidates with a strong background in credit control, accounts receivable management, leadership, and financial compliance will excel in this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, document, and implement credit management strategies, policies, and procedures aligned with Equity Afya’s business objectives.
- Conduct ongoing credit risk assessments and recommend effective mitigation strategies.
- Ensure timely and accurate reconciliation of accounts and issuance of statements.
- Manage Equity Afya’s debt portfolio to achieve at least 95% receivables collection within due dates and according to established targets.
- Negotiate favorable payment terms with business partners and ensure adherence to agreed-upon payment plans.
- Collaborate with Business Development and Customer Success teams to maintain strong customer relationships that enhance timely payment.
- Understand and internalize the annual cash flow needs outlined in company budgets.
- Maintain an accurate Accounts Receivable ageing schedule and prepare periodic (daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly) analysis reports.
- Identify, highlight, and recommend actions for potential bad debts, including provisions and write-offs.
- Ensure compliance with financial policies, statutory regulations, internal controls, and audit requirements.
- Provide support during internal and external audits relating to accounts receivable.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Accounting, Finance, or a related business field from a recognized institution.
- Relevant professional qualifications such as CPA, ACCA, or CCP.
- Membership in a recognized professional body such as ICPAK, ACCA, or ICM.
- Minimum of five (5) years of hands-on experience in credit control and accounts receivable management.
- Proven experience leading high-performing finance or accounting teams.
- Strong understanding of credit control principles, practices, and regulatory frameworks in Kenya.
- Excellent analytical and financial assessment skills, with the ability to evaluate credit risks and make informed decisions.
- Exceptional communication, negotiation, organizational, and stakeholder management abilities.
- Strong customer relationship management skills.
- Self-driven, target-oriented professional with a commitment to achieving results.

- Experience in healthcare finance or working within a medical services environment.
