Job Description
The Electrical Technician – Commissary is responsible for the technical inspection, repair, and routine servicing of electrical systems and food processing equipment at the Java House Commissary. This role ensures machines, fixtures, and utilities are fully operational and meet safety and food standards. The technician will also provide minor maintenance support across plumbing, masonry, and carpentry disciplines as needed to support operations.
This opportunity suits candidates who are technically skilled, dependable, and familiar with maintaining equipment in a production or food processing environment. As part of the technical services team, the technician plays a crucial role in ensuring uninterrupted operations and minimizing downtime at Java House’s central production hub.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventive and reactive maintenance on electrical lighting, wiring systems, and equipment at assigned Java House locations.
- Inspect electrical installations and components to ensure functionality and safety for all users.
- Conduct basic plumbing, carpentry, and masonry repairs as required across designated facilities.
- Support food safety by carrying out maintenance tasks that prevent contamination or disruption to hygienic operations.
- Keep accurate maintenance logs and activity records for compliance, reference, and audit purposes.
- Identify inefficiencies or recurring issues and propose improvements to reduce operational risks and costs.
Key Performance Indicators
- Zero incidents or accidents related to technical systems within designated areas.
- Uptime percentage of essential commissary equipment and utilities.
- Compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) during all tasks.
- Proactive suggestions or ideas that contribute to continuous improvement and cost efficiency.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma in Electrical or Electronic Engineering from a recognized institution.
- Minimum of 3 years’ hands-on experience as an electrical maintenance technician.
- Ability to work at heights and conduct physically demanding tasks safely.
- Willingness to work night shifts, up to 20% of duty time.
Core Competencies
- Proficiency in troubleshooting, repairing, and servicing:
- Single- and three-phase wiring systems.
- Lighting circuits, socket circuits, and electrical fixtures.
- Technical expertise in at least one of the following domains:
- Restaurant Equipment: espresso machines, fryers, dishwashers, ovens, blenders, toasters, etc.
- Commissary Equipment: Revent ovens, vacuum sealers, mixers, slicers, food processors, bread moulders, extractors, etc.
- Basic knowledge of plumbing, masonry, and carpentry.
- Strong communication skills in English and Kiswahili, both written and spoken.
- Excellent documentation, reporting, and technical explanation abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in food production or commissary environments.
- Knowledge of HACCP, ISO, or other food safety management systems.
- Proficiency in using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
- Certifications in electrical safety or workplace health standards.
