
Finance Operations Accountant

Syngenta Crop Protection is hiring a Finance Operations Accountant to join their team in Nairobi on a 9-month fixed-term contract. Role Purpose
The Finance Operations Accountant will play a crucial role in maintaining financial accuracy and compliance through:
- – Reviewing transaction recording and reporting accuracy throughout the month
- – Ensuring timely and accurate control activities
- – Participating in month-end procedures
- – Supporting the annual audit process and other scheduled or ad-hoc reviews
Key Responsibilities
- – End-to-end responsibility in accounting areas, preparing group reporting, local statutory reporting (up to IFRS hand-off), and tax reporting
- – Ensuring accurate and timely recording of all business transactions in the ERP system according to IFRS rules for group reporting and local GAAP rules for statutory reporting
- – Maintaining high standards for verification of assets and liabilities in the balance sheet
- – Performing balance sheet reconciliation aligned with corporate IFRS and statutory reporting requirements
- – Driving efficient delivery of Finance Operations activities while collaborating with country peers to share best practices
- – Facilitating internal/external audits and implementing timely remediation of outstanding audit issues
- – Supporting financial compliance capability and promoting compliance culture through training and initiatives
- – Ensuring accurate cash-flow forecasting and effective cash-flow management
- – Supporting additional business function activities as assigned
Qualifications and Requirements
Educational Background
- – Undergraduate degree in commerce, accounting, or finance (or equivalent)
- – Professional qualification such as CPA, ACCA, or CIMA
Technical Knowledge
- – Excellent understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- – Strong knowledge of SAP and Microsoft Office applications
- – Comprehensive knowledge of relevant local/regional tax legislation
- – Sound understanding of business end-to-end processes and internal controls
- – Good grasp of statutory, tax, and statistical reporting requirements
Experience and Skills
- – 5+ years of professional experience in financial operations, preferably in a multinational environment
- – Self-management skills with ability to work independently and make informed decisions
- – Strong time management capabilities with proactive approach to taking initiatives
- – Effective interaction skills with functional leadership and external customers
- – Ability to work productively in a cross-functional matrix organization
