Job Description
The Head of Finance & Strategy will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer. The role is responsible for the strategic direction and operational management of SMEP’s finance and strategy functions. The successful candidate will lead financial planning, regulatory compliance, reporting, budgeting, audit coordination, and overall strategic execution. This role is critical to ensuring the profitability, sustainability, and strategic growth of the Bank.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate the Bank’s Corporate Strategy formulation and execution processes
- Drive business model innovation and process re-engineering initiatives
- Ensure full compliance with local regulations, IFRS standards, and internal finance policies
- Produce timely and accurate financial reports to support decision-making by senior leadership and the Board
- Oversee development and implementation of the Finance Department’s strategic and operational goals
- Lead annual budgeting, planning, forecasting, and ensure optimized cash flow management
- Provide leadership and mentorship to the Finance team and foster cross-functional collaboration
- Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements and remittances
- Coordinate the annual external audit and maintain relationships with auditors and board committees
- Oversee management of bank assets, including acquisition, amortization, and disposal tracking
- Provide investment advice with a focus on liquidity, profitability, and risk assessment
- Monitor the bank’s capital structure and determine optimal financing strategies
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field from a recognized university
- Certified Public Accountant – CPA (K) or equivalent professional qualification (e.g., ACCA, CFA)
- Minimum of 7 years in management-level positions, at least 5 of which must be in a Finance Department within a Bank or Financial Institution
- Proven experience in financial reporting, audits, budgeting, and compliance management
- Strong leadership, decision-making, and organizational skills
- Must be between 40 and 45 years old
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Finance, Strategic Management, or a related field
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and financial modeling
- Experience using T24 Core Banking System
- Knowledge of regulatory frameworks and banking sector governance practices
