Job Description

The Identity & Access Management Engineer will be responsible for architecting, engineering, implementing, and optimizing enterprise IAM workflows and technologies. This includes user lifecycle management, application access provisioning, system configuration, access automation, role-based access control (RBAC), Identity Governance Administration (IGA), and security compliance.

This role will collaborate with cross-functional teams across technology, operations, cybersecurity, and business units to ensure secure, efficient, and compliant access to systems. The IAM Engineer will also guide application teams in the integration of new systems and ensure adherence to security and identity governance standards.

Key Responsibilities

1. IAM Architecture & Engineering

  • Design and automate user account lifecycle workflows including provisioning, securing, activation, and deactivation of identities and entitlements.
  • Participate in projects and production support operations focused on implementing IAM and RBAC integrations.
  • Collaborate in the design, rollout, and support of IAM technologies and associated security solutions.
  • Define and implement standard processes for new application provisioning and role management integrations.
  • Plan, test, and maintain IAM security configurations to protect access to Equity Bank systems.
  • Develop, implement, and support RBAC structures across the organization.
  • Manage directory permissions and resolve discrepancies between assigned and required access rights.
  • Act as the subject matter expert for Identity Governance and RBAC.

2. System Support, Testing & Optimization

  • Troubleshoot IAM tool issues and support application upgrades, new technologies, and configuration changes.
  • Address security and workflow issues independently or collaboratively while adhering to service standards.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, audit requirements, and the Minimum Necessary Rules.
  • Support ongoing IAM audits, risk assessments, and implementation of audit recommendations.
  • Generate and analyze IAM reports to support decision-making and audit readiness.
  • Support optimization of MFA, SSO, biometric devices, MDM, and other authentication tools.
  • Automate and orchestrate repeatable tasks to enhance IAM efficiency and accuracy.

3. Documentation & Standard Operating Procedures

  • Develop and maintain system access documentation, IAM configurations, and workflow standards.
  • Create security implementation plans based on operational requirements.
  • Ensure proper documentation and archival of access authorization evidence.

4. Strategy & Collaboration

  • Deep understanding of Directory Services, IAM technologies, SSO, and authentication protocols.
  • Work with APIs and integration workflows to support IAM automation.
  • Collaborate with Equity staff and leadership to support identity and access governance initiatives.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement activities across the IAM and cybersecurity teams.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, Information Security, Network Engineering, MIS, or related fields.
  • Relevant certifications such as CISSP, Security+, or CISM (added advantage).
  • IAM vendor certifications (e.g., CyberArk, SailPoint, Okta, Entra ID) are an added advantage.
  • Excellent understanding of Directory Services and IAM technologies including Active Directory, Okta, CyberArk, SailPoint, Entra ID, and others.
  • Strong knowledge of SSO technologies, SAML, OAuth 2.0, and authentication systems.
  • Experience working with Windows, Linux, Mac OS, and other enterprise environments.
  • 5+ years’ experience with IAM tools, Microsoft O365, Active Directory, ServiceNow, or equivalent applications.
  • Understanding of ISO 27001, PCI-DSS standards, and security risk management practices.
