Job Purpose:

The Library Assistant Interns will undertake responsibilities encompassing various facets of library services, ensuring their seamless execution and support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • – Provide circulation desk services.
  • – Sort books, publications, and other items according to established procedures and return them to shelves, files, or other designated storage areas.
  • – Instruct patrons how to access and use library resources.
  • – Locate library materials for patrons, including books, periodicals, and articles.
  • – Perform user education and orientation for library users, including preparing library guides and promotional materials and assisting patrons in locating library materials.
  • – Perform collection maintenance activities, including inventory, weeding, and minor repairs of damaged information materials.
  • – Sort and shelve information materials according to the classification scheme in use to ensure ease of retrieval by users, including shelve reading.
  • – Participate in the processing of new library materials as assigned.
  • – Undertake any other duty as may be required.

Africa International University Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

  • – Bachelor’s degree or a diploma in Library Science or a related field
  • – Proficient in library management systems, preferably KOHA
  • – Computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Office Tools
  • – Conversant with the LC Classification system

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • – Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • – Proactive, self-driven, and goal-oriented
  • – Ability to work with minimum supervision
  • – Computer literate
