About the Role

The Maintenance Lead will serve as the Progressive Maintenance (PM) systems owner for designated production lines. This role is responsible for minimizing breakdowns and maintenance-related losses by driving reliability at the lowest operational cost. As a key technical leader within the Nairobi factory, the Maintenance Lead will also coach and build capability among equipment owners and technicians to enhance line performance and meet strategic business goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead efforts to reduce or eliminate equipment breakdowns and machine stoppages related to poor settings or maintenance lapses.
  • Coordinate preventive maintenance activities with the central maintenance team to ensure timely execution and minimal production downtime.
  • Ensure optimal machine calibration to enhance product quality, minimize material waste, and increase overall equipment efficiency (OEE).
  • Deliver hands-on coaching to operators and technicians, reinforcing Progressive Maintenance (PM) principles.
  • Build operational excellence and technical competence across the production line team.

What We’re Looking For

  • Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, or Electronics Engineering (mandatory).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working in a cigarette manufacturing factory, including at least 3 years as a making or packing technician.
  • Strong knowledge of secondary manufacturing operations and quality assurance processes.
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to coach and influence others.
  • Problem-solving mindset with the ability to proactively identify process improvement opportunities.
