Job Description
The Project Officer – Hygiene and Sanitation will lead the implementation of community-based sanitation, hygiene, and health interventions in Golbo Area Program (AP). The role focuses on increasing sanitation coverage, promoting hygiene best practices, and improving access to safe water. The successful candidate will coordinate with county government departments, private sector partners, and community stakeholders to implement market-based WASH solutions that drive sustainable behavioral change and improve public health outcomes.
This position requires a results-oriented professional who can combine technical WASH knowledge with effective project management and stakeholder engagement skills. The Project Officer will play a key role in ensuring the quality, impact, and sustainability of hygiene and sanitation programs within the assigned area.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and monitor sanitation, hygiene, and health promotion activities in line with project objectives and donor guidelines.
- Identify and roll out viable technological options and market-based sanitation approaches to enhance access and affordability.
- Develop detailed implementation plans and budgets for WASH activities, ensuring timely execution and high-quality delivery.
- Provide technical support in the design and construction of sanitation infrastructure such as VIP latrines and pre-cast slabs.
- Facilitate capacity building for staff, communities, and partners on sanitation and hygiene best practices, including menstrual hygiene management (MHM).
- Prepare accurate and timely progress reports, including monthly, quarterly, and end-of-project updates aligned with World Vision Kenya and donor requirements.
- Document and disseminate success stories, lessons learned, and best practices to strengthen learning and accountability.
- Support integration of WASH and health interventions for greater community impact and improved child well-being outcomes.
- Engage with local authorities, private sector actors, and civil society to promote partnerships that accelerate WASH service delivery.
- Participate in technical working groups, county coordination meetings, and advocacy forums to influence policy and strengthen WASH networks.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Public or Environmental Health, Community Development, or a related WASH field.
- At least 3–5 years of progressive experience managing or implementing sanitation and hygiene programs, preferably in community development settings.
- Demonstrated experience in market-based sanitation approaches and community mobilization for WASH interventions.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities, with proven experience working with government, NGOs, and private sector partners.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data management tools.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in developing WASH funding proposals and concept notes for donor projects.
- Expertise in partnership development, networking, and advocacy for sanitation and hygiene initiatives.
- Knowledge of Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) programming and behavior change communication.
- Cross-cultural sensitivity and ability to work effectively with diverse communities.
