Resident Engineer

The Ministry of Health is seeking an experienced and qualified Resident Engineer to supervise the construction of the Kisii Cancer Treatment Centre in Kisii County. This project is co-financed by the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA), Saudi Fund for Development (SFD), and the Government of Kenya.

Position Summary:

The Resident Engineer will provide technical oversight to the Project Coordination Unit and ensure the construction adheres to specifications, timelines, budgets, and quality standards. Reporting to the Project Manager, the successful candidate will lead all on-site engineering activities.

Key Responsibilities:

• – Direct and participate in surveying, layout, and establishing construction references
• – Supervise all project works, analyze test results, and ensure conformance to designs
• – Review survey reports, maps, drawings, and other technical data for project planning
• – Approve works in consultation with the Project Manager and raise technical issues
• – Review consultant reports and participate in design reviews
• – Manage site health, safety, and security for workers and the public
• – Generate weekly/monthly reports and briefs for the Project Manager
• – Ensure quality of materials used and maintain project records/documentation

Qualifications:

• – Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution
• – Postgraduate qualification in Structural Engineering is an added advantage
• – Competence in design and construction management software
• – Registration with the Engineers Board of Kenya
• – Minimum 10 years of professional civil engineering experience, including hospital projects
• – Experience in project management for construction projects
