Technologist (Surveying/GIS/Geomatics) Job Description
This Technologist vacancy in Kenya involves managing geospatial, surveying, and GIS operations within the University. The role ensures that laboratory and field activities support teaching, research, and applied projects effectively.

Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, maintain, and manage laboratory and field equipment, including total stations, GPS/GNSS receivers, and GIS software.
- Conduct and supervise practical exercises, laboratory sessions, and fieldwork for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
- Collect, process, and analyze spatial and geospatial data to support teaching, research, and applied projects.
- Ensure proper functioning, calibration, and maintenance of surveying and GIS equipment, including troubleshooting software and hardware.
- Supervise and mentor junior staff, students, and attachees engaged in laboratory or fieldwork.
- Maintain accurate laboratory and field records, including inventories, consumables, and quality assurance documentation.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and proper handling of equipment and data.
- Support research projects, mapping, and geospatial analysis by providing technical expertise and guidance.
- Perform any other relevant duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Surveying, GIS, Geomatics, or a related field.
- Diploma in a relevant field from a recognized and accredited institution.
- Minimum six (6) years cumulative relevant work experience at the level of Technician/Technologist Grade 7 or equivalent.
- Proficiency in GIS, surveying, and geospatial software applications.
- Demonstrated ability to manage laboratory and field equipment effectively.
- Experience supervising and mentoring junior staff or students.
