About the Role

The Shared Services Accountant will help maintain accurate and timely financial information across supported subsidiaries and associates. The position will coordinate financial reporting within a decentralised accounting environment while operating in accordance with group policies, systems, statutory requirements and internal controls.

The role involves preparing financial and management accounts, reviewing subsidiary accounts and reports, preparing consolidated accounts, and providing financial information that supports management decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the preparation of budgets, cash flow forecasts and business plans and monitor performance against approved budgets.
  • Maintain accurate general ledger, bank, stock and asset records for supported companies.
  • Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with statutory and company requirements.
  • Coordinate and consolidate financial reporting from subsidiaries and associates.
  • Recommend subsidiary payments and prepare payment remittances for processing.
  • Review payment remittances for subsidiaries and recommend them for approval.
  • Manage expense activities within approved limits and support adherence to budgets.
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial, management and consolidated reports and schedules.
  • Develop and present financial reports that support informed management decision-making.
  • Identify and clearly communicate financial trends, insights, concerns and recommendations.
  • Ensure financial reports are submitted within agreed daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual timelines.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures and applicable statutory guidelines.
  • Monitor identified compliance gaps and support the implementation of corrective and preventative actions.
  • Support the closure of audit findings within agreed timelines.
  • Deliver agreed performance objectives and take corrective action where performance is below expectations.
  • Coordinate own learning and development and comply with applicable HR policies and approved leave plans.

Required Qualifications

  • A university degree in Finance, Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) or Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT).
  • CPA (K) or an equivalent accounting qualification.
  • At least 5 years of relevant accounting experience.
  • Three to five years of experience in real estate property management and construction projects accounting.
  • Previous experience coordinating an ERP system.
  • Detailed accounting skills and a broad knowledge of new and existing accounting information standards.
  • Professional-level proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project and Outlook.

  • Financial Reporting: Ability to prepare accurate, comprehensive and timely financial and management reports.
  • Accounting: Strong knowledge of general ledger management, financial statements and accounting processes.
  • ERP Systems: Ability to coordinate and work with ERP systems in an accounting environment.
  • Teamwork and Leadership: Ability to participate in and lead a team.
  • Project Management: Ability to support and manage relevant financial projects and activities.
  • Technology Awareness: Interest in learning and keeping abreast of new technologies in the market.
  • Compliance: Ability to work within accounting standards, company policies, procedures and statutory requirements.
