The Accountant/Finance Officer will play a vital role in ensuring financial accountability, transparency, and smooth administrative operations within this impactful project.

Key Job Purpose

The Accountant/Finance Officer will collaborate closely with the Tamatisha TB Program Manager, the Regional Finance & Administration Director, and the U.S.-based finance support team. The primary goal is to manage budgeting, accounting, and financial operations for the project. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with local laws, MSH policies, and donor requirements — ultimately safeguarding all project assets and financial transactions.

Main Responsibilities

1. Financial Management

  • Assist in budget development, expenditure tracking, and cash flow management.
  • Analyze financial risks and support mitigation efforts.
  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial reports for donors and project stakeholders.
  • Oversee financial audits, support donor compliance, and ensure documentation is in place.
  • Monitor and reconcile project bank accounts, vendor payments, and payroll processing.

2. Accounting

  • Record all project transactions in QuickBooks and ensure timely submission of expense reports.
  • Prepare payment vouchers, manage per diems, and reconcile employee advances.
  • Maintain accurate accounting files and improve financial tracking systems.
  • Support tax reporting and statutory compliance requirements.

3. Operations & Administrative Support

  • Oversee procurement, logistics, fleet, and facility operations for the Tamatisha TB project.
  • Coordinate closely with HO teams for HR, travel, and contract management needs.
  • Support consultant and vendor contract processing and ensure high-quality admin systems.
  • Ensure proper documentation for VAT exemptions and audit readiness.

4. Team & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Participate in project management meetings and provide strategic financial insight.
  • Collaborate with both field teams and HQ for unified operational effectiveness.
  • Play a key role in strengthening MSH’s presence and reputation in Kenya.

Minimum Job Requirements

Education

A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Management, or a related field is required.

Experience

  • At least 7 years of professional accounting experience, preferably in donor-funded projects such as USAID.
  • Experience in budget planning, financial reporting, and audit compliance.
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Office (Excel in particular).
  • Understanding of international donor regulations, especially USAID financial policies.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Knowledge of internal controls, audit processes, and financial compliance.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and under tight deadlines.
