Job Description

The API Technical Writer at Equity Bank will be responsible for developing and maintaining high-quality API documentation and technical resources. This role ensures that developers—both internal and external—can seamlessly integrate with the bank’s APIs and digital services.

You will work closely with software engineers, product managers, DevOps, and QA teams to capture accurate technical information and translate it into accessible and helpful documentation. This role directly supports the bank’s developer relations strategy and helps drive API adoption, innovation, and product growth within the financial technology ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain API Documentation: Continuously write, edit, and update documentation for RESTful APIs to reflect the latest changes in functionality and integrations.
  • Manage the Developer Portal: Oversee content quality, structure, and user experience on Equity Bank’s API Developer Portal to ensure it’s a one-stop resource hub for fintech partners.
  • Draft Release Notes: Prepare detailed release notes for new API versions, feature upgrades, patches, and deprecation notices, ensuring clarity and transparency.
  • Engage with the Developer Community: Monitor developer forums and feedback channels to address questions, improve content, and advocate for better developer experience.
  • Create Developer Resources: Design guides, tutorials, FAQs, integration walkthroughs, and best practice playbooks that accelerate API onboarding and usage.
  • Collaborate Across Departments: Partner with engineering, DevOps, product, and customer support teams to gather requirements, validate content, and ensure technical accuracy.
  • Maintain Documentation Standards: Define style guides, templates, and standards to ensure consistency and professionalism in all developer-facing content.
  • Visual Content Creation: Build architecture diagrams, integration workflows, and catalog listings to support deep technical understanding.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in technical writing, backend/API development, or software engineering.
  • Strong experience with documenting RESTful APIs, SDKs, and technical products.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a closely related field.
  • Proficiency in tools like Swagger/OpenAPI, Postman, Redoc, or similar API documentation platforms.
  • Ability to read and interpret code written in languages such as Python, JavaScript, or Java.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills tailored for technical and non-technical audiences alike.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in Agile development environments.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and API lifecycle management tools.
  • Background in UX or content design for developer portals.
  • Experience with diagramming tools like Lucidchart, Miro, or Draw.io.
