In Kenya, Save the Children has been operating since the 1950s, delivering large-scale development and humanitarian interventions to vulnerable communities nationwide. Job Description

The Awards & Partnerships Intern will provide essential administrative, coordination, and compliance support to the Awards and Implementing Partners teams. This role ensures effective and timely processing of awards documentation, partner assessments, reporting workflows, and monitoring activities. The intern will collaborate closely with the Awards Assistant, Awards Coordinator, Head of Awards, and cross-functional teams to maintain structured, updated, and compliant award management processes in alignment with Save the Children’s global standards.

This internship is particularly suitable for individuals exploring careers in grant management, donor compliance, humanitarian program management, partnerships coordination, or development finance. The intern will learn how awards move through the full lifecycle—from proposal development and partner vetting to monitoring, reporting, and close-out.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the timely processing, documentation, and uploading of awards information onto the Awards Management System (AMS) during proposal and implementation stages.
  • Assist in organizing monthly awards and partner review meetings, capturing action points, and circulating documented minutes promptly.
  • Support partner vetting, due diligence assessments, and preparation of partner agreements and partner payments.
  • Participate in planning and conducting partner monitoring visits to evaluate progress, compliance, and implementation effectiveness.
  • Help coordinate award kick-off meetings and ensure alignment with relevant functions such as finance, MEAL, supply chain, and program teams.
  • Assist in creating budget versus actual (BVA) analyses and prepare monthly updates for award review meetings.
  • Maintain various trackers including income trackers, funding trackers, reporting trackers, and award close-out trackers.
  • Support the compilation of monthly portfolio analysis reports from AMS, covering pipeline awards, active awards, high-risk awards, amendments, and closed projects.
  • Ensure AMS is fully updated and accurately reflects all documentation, audit trails, and compliance requirements.
  • Assist in donor compliance monitoring, ensuring adherence to reporting deadlines, audit requirements, implementation periods, and organizational award management policies.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, Commerce, or a related field.
  • Strong planning, coordination, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Computer literacy, particularly in MS Office; familiarity with financial or grants systems is an added advantage.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills, especially in multicultural environments.
  • Adaptability, flexibility, patience, and the ability to remain effective under pressure.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with Save the Children systems, especially AMS, is an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of project management, M&E coordination, or donor-funded programs.

Benefits and Compensation

This internship offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in international development, donor-funded awards, grant management, and partner coordination. The selected candidate will gain exposure to large-scale humanitarian operations, receive professional mentorship from sector experts, and build foundational skills required for careers in INGOs, donor agencies, and development management. The role includes a supportive work environment, opportunities for networking, and access to learning and development resources within Save the Children.
