Barista – Role Overview

The Barista role at Java House in Nairobi is responsible for preparing and serving high-quality hot and cold beverages while ensuring exceptional customer interactions at all service touchpoints. The Java House Barista plays a critical role in maintaining beverage quality, minimizing wastage, managing counter operations, and ensuring that every guest receives timely and accurate service. Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and serve high-quality hot and cold drinks, including coffee, tea, artisan beverages, and specialty drinks.
• Deliver excellent customer service through professional interactions at all customer touchpoints.
• Consistently follow Java House Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) during beverage preparation and service.
• Support the barista in charge by advising on stock levels and replenishment needs.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and fully functional barista counter at all times.
• Conduct daily stock takes for counter products at the end of each shift.
• Ensure all take-away and dine-in orders are prepared and dispensed accurately and promptly.
• Arrange and maintain the pastry display, ensuring cleanliness and visual appeal.
• Reconfirm orders processed through the Vuka system for accuracy.
• Control and minimize product wastage in line with operational guidelines.
• Manage shift float money, ensure sufficient change availability, and prevent shortages.
• Ensure timely closure of counter variances and accurate financial reconciliation.
• Maintain and care for counter machines and equipment.
• Collaborate with team members to create a positive customer experience.
• Carry out additional tasks as assigned by supervisors or management.

Required Qualifications

• Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
• Ability to think quickly and make sound decisions in a fast-paced hospitality environment.
• High level of responsibility, reliability, and integrity.

• Completion of in-house barista and service training.

• At least 6 months of experience as a certified Java House service staff.
• 2 years’ experience as a certified Java House Africa staff member or 3 years’ experience as a Barista in a certified coffee shop.
• Strong knowledge of the Java House coffee and beverage menu.
• Demonstrated commitment to Java House systems, procedures, and service standards.
