Job Description

The Branch Operations Team Member (BOTM) plays a critical role in supporting daily operations at Java House branches. From food and beverage preparation to maintaining cleanliness and stock control, this role is central to ensuring high-quality service delivery in a clean, safe, and engaging environment.

BOTMs work closely with baristas and kitchen staff to ensure that guests receive the best possible dining experience. This position offers hands-on learning, in-house training, and room for career growth within Kenya’s thriving hospitality landscape.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and functional service counter at all times.
  • Present menu options, upsell based on customer preferences, and support suggestive selling efforts.
  • Follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) during food and beverage production.
  • Take and deliver accurate customer orders, ensuring neat and timely presentation.
  • Clean kitchen utensils, cookware, guest and staff toilets, and general restaurant areas.
  • Support waste disposal, bin management, and grease trap maintenance.
  • Assist the Barista in Charge with operations and communicate stock levels for restocking.
  • Conduct daily stock takes of counter products and ensure displays are fully stocked and presentable.
  • Support food preparation, correct storage, and quality control to meet Java House standards.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Food and beverage quality consistently meets Java House standards.
  • Cleanliness and hygiene levels of workstations, counters, and public areas are maintained.
  • Customer orders are delivered accurately and promptly.
  • Stock is well managed, and reorder levels are communicated proactively.
  • Mis-en-place is properly set up and resources are efficiently utilized.

Required Qualifications

  • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with a mean grade of C plain.
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to make quick decisions under pressure.
  • Proficient in using Point of Sale (POS) systems.
  • Customer service oriented with excellent communication and upselling skills.
  • Result-driven, articulate, self-motivated, and dependable.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least six months of experience in a food and beverage or hospitality setting (Java House staff or equivalent).
  • In-house training in barista services and food service delivery.
  • Basic housekeeping skills and sound menu knowledge.
  • Familiarity with food safety and hygiene practices including HACCP guidelines.

  • Basic knowledge of food production and sanitation standards.
