Position Overview: Security Officer

Location: Nairobi, Kenya
Contract Type: Contracted to Full Time

Job Summary

The Security Officer will be responsible for implementing and overseeing security measures across KRCS headquarters, the logistics center, and various operational sites. The role involves protecting staff, volunteers, and organizational assets while maintaining strong partnerships with law enforcement and other stakeholders.

  • DRO and KRO Operations Officers
  • Outsourced Security Personnel

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. Security Strategy Implementation

Develop and execute comprehensive security strategies aligned with KRCS Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to support mission-critical operations.

2. Supervision of Security Personnel

Collaborate with Heads of Region (HORs) to manage outsourced security teams at camps, hospitals, and program sites, ensuring discipline, accountability, and high performance.

3. Risk Assessment and Mitigation

Conduct ongoing risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities and implement appropriate mitigation measures to safeguard staff, volunteers, and KRCS assets.

4. Incident Management and Internal Investigations

Respond swiftly to security incidents, lead investigations, and provide actionable recommendations to prevent recurrence. Prepare detailed incident reports for management review.

5. Security Training and Awareness

Facilitate training sessions and security briefings for staff and volunteers to nurture a culture of safety and preparedness. Monitor compliance and encourage proactive security practices.

6. External Liaison and Networking

Engage with local law enforcement agencies, peer organizations, and relevant stakeholders to gather intelligence, foster cooperation, and coordinate emergency response efforts.

7. Reporting and Documentation

Maintain up-to-date security documentation and reports. Analyze trends, prepare post-incident analysis reports, and ensure that all security issues are documented and communicated as per KRCS protocols.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Security Management, Criminology, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of five years in security operations, preferably within humanitarian or non-profit settings.

Key Competencies and Skills

  • Security Expertise: Deep understanding of organizational and humanitarian security protocols.
  • Training and Investigation: Demonstrated ability to conduct security training, briefings, and internal investigations.
  • Technical Proficiency: Computer literacy and experience with security management systems and surveillance technologies.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Familiarity with basic first aid and fire safety procedures is essential.
