SoCha is hiring a seasoned Kenyan national as an environmental law, climate change policy, and legislative drafting expert to work with the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry. The consultant will support the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs), regulations, and tools for activating Kenya’s carbon markets ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities:
- – Draft SOPs for the Designated National Authority to approve new carbon projects
- – Draft regulations on carbon trading, carbon registry, and non-market mechanisms
- – Prepare regulatory impact assessment reports
- – Draft public participation reports on carbon trading/registry/non-market regulations
- – Contribute to policy memoranda to facilitate decision-making
Requirements:
- – Postgraduate degree in environmental law, climate policy, natural resources, or related field
- – 15+ years of experience managing climate policy/legal assessments in Kenya
- – Legislative drafting experience in climate change, environment, carbon markets, NDCs
- – Understanding of UNFCCC Paris Agreement market/non-market mechanisms
- – Track record drafting reports, policies, and evaluations (provide samples)
