Job Description

The Chief Executive Officer & Trust Secretary is responsible for providing overall strategic and operational leadership to the Scheme. The role ensures compliance with relevant laws, the Trust Deed, and RBA regulations while guiding the organization toward its long-term objectives. The position also serves as the primary advisor to the Board of Trustees on corporate governance, strategic planning, investment oversight, and policy implementation.

Key Responsibilities

Managerial Leadership

  • Provide executive leadership, direction, and coordination across all departments to ensure efficient operations aligned with the Scheme’s mission and vision.
  • Ensure the Scheme operates in compliance with the Trust Deed, laws, and internal policies, fostering accountability and ethical governance.
  • Oversee strategic planning, goal-setting, and the development of performance-based objectives for departmental heads and staff.
  • Guide the management team in the execution and monitoring of strategic plans, ensuring alignment with organizational values and objectives.
  • Promote effective communication across departments to clarify responsibilities, enhance collaboration, and drive cohesive performance.
  • Oversee preparation of the Scheme’s annual report, financial statements, and statutory documentation within set timelines.
  • Champion customer service excellence and continuous improvement through industry benchmarking and innovation in pension administration.

Operational Oversight

  • Serve as the principal liaison with key stakeholders including KenGen PLC, RBA, KRA, and the Scheme’s service providers.
  • Ensure accurate financial reporting, budgeting, and cash flow management while maintaining transparent records and effective internal controls.
  • Supervise preparation and submission of statutory returns, ensuring full compliance with regulatory and tax obligations.
  • Coordinate with fund managers, property managers, and custodians to track investment performance and report outcomes to the Board of Trustees.
  • Guarantee timely payment of member benefits in strict adherence to the Scheme’s Trust Deed, ensuring accuracy and fairness in all disbursements.
  • Oversee the maintenance of updated membership, actuarial, and asset records to facilitate efficient pension administration.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Commerce, Accounting, Actuarial Science, Law, or a related field from a recognized university.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum of twelve (12) years’ experience, with at least seven (7) in senior management and three (3) in a similar executive role within pension administration.
  • Must be a registered member of a recognized professional body.
  • Completion of the Trustee Development Program (TDPK) from a recognized institution.
