Job Description
The Community Mobilizer will be the frontline link between the Youth Ready program and the Mathare Valley community. This role is responsible for identifying and recruiting vulnerable youth, facilitating inclusive community engagement, supporting delivery of the Youth Ready life-skills curriculum, and tracking participant progress. The Community Mobilizer will work closely with local leaders, caregivers, schools, civil society and private-sector partners to ensure youth access to mentorship, vocational training, apprenticeships and financial inclusion pathways.
Key Responsibilities
- Community Mobilization & Engagement: Identify, recruit and mobilize vulnerable youth (15–24 years) into Youth Ready groups; conduct sensitization with parents, caregivers, faith leaders and local authorities to build buy-in; support formation and strengthening of youth groups and ensure gender balance and inclusion of marginalized groups (refugees, youth with disabilities, young mothers).
- Youth Ready Model Implementation: Support facilitation and coaching of the Youth Ready life-skills curriculum; mentor youth in designing and implementing community service projects; integrate mental health and psychological first aid (PFA) into sessions; follow up on participants and document progress and drop-outs.
- Linkages & Livelihood Pathways: Facilitate connections between youth and mentors, apprenticeships, vocational training institutions, savings groups, microfinance and private-sector opportunities; support youth to access government youth funds and grants.
- Capacity Building: Identify local mentors, coaches and role models; enable peer-to-peer learning, exchange visits and experience sharing; encourage youth leadership in community activities and advocacy.
- Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of youth participation, group activities and outcomes; produce timely reports and document success stories, lessons learned and case studies; share project feedback with communities.
- Networking & Representation: Strengthen partnerships with CBOs, schools, churches, NGOs, youth-led organizations and vocational providers; represent the project in community forums, stakeholder meetings and government engagements.
- Other Duties: Participate in weekly local office and bimonthly support meetings; perform other duties as assigned by the Coordinator to meet project objectives.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum Diploma in Community Development, Social Work, Education, Youth Development, or related field. A Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Education or Development Studies is an advantage.
- At least 2 years’ experience in youth programming, community mobilization, or livelihoods projects, including work with vulnerable populations (youth affected by crime/drugs, out-of-school youth, young mothers, persons with disabilities).
- Prior experience facilitating life-skills, Positive Youth Development (PYD) or Youth Ready models, and working with savings groups or linkages to vocational training is desirable.
- Strong facilitation, group mobilization and interpersonal skills; excellent communication and networking ability.
- Ability to collect, manage and report accurate data; solid report-writing skills and ability to document human transformation stories.
- Problem-solving, adaptability, cultural sensitivity and the capacity to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Willingness to travel frequently within the community.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated knowledge of Positive Youth Development, Youth Ready or similar life-skills frameworks.
- Experience linking youth to employment, entrepreneurship and vocational training pathways.
- Experience working with diverse, multi-stakeholder partnerships including government and private sector.
