Job Description
The Corporate Communications Officer II will support the Academy’s communication strategy, brand positioning, and media visibility. This role is essential to managing both internal and external stakeholder communication. It contributes to strengthening Bandari Maritime Academy’s identity as a leading maritime training institution and aligns with rising demand for corporate communications careers and government communication jobs Kenya.
The officer will work within the Corporate Communications Department, supporting content creation, media outreach, event coordination, digital communication, crisis response, and corporate branding initiatives. The position requires a communication professional with excellent writing skills, strong media awareness, and a deep understanding of public relations — especially within the context of public relations jobs in Mombasa and national educational institutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, review, and implement communication strategies to support the Academy’s objectives.
- Design and execute corporate communication and marketing plans to increase brand visibility.
- Manage and protect the Academy’s brand reputation and corporate image.
- Oversee media relations across print, electronic, and social media platforms.
- Coordinate the Academy’s public functions, events, and marketing activities.
- Create IEC and marketing materials to support training, publicity, and outreach efforts.
- Support the Academy’s corporate social responsibility initiatives.
- Manage public relations events and communication activities for improved stakeholder engagement.
- Build and maintain relationships with media to ensure accurate and timely coverage of Academy events.
- Edit and support production of newsletters, annual reports, speeches, website content, and audio-visual communication materials.
- Provide crisis communication support aligned with the Academy’s guidelines.
- Enhance customer service communication and coordinate staff sensitization programs.
- Ensure consistent implementation of communication plans to strengthen institutional visibility.
Required Qualifications
- A Degree in Communication Studies, Mass Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, Information Science, International Relations, Social Sciences, or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
- High integrity, strong motivation, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
- Proficiency in computer applications relevant to communication work.
- Evidence of professional competence and managerial capability demonstrated through previous roles.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience within educational institutions, public sector organizations, or large government agencies.
- Knowledge of digital communication tools, social media management, or online content development.
- Strong writing, editing, proofreading, and storytelling skills.
- Experience in public relations, event planning, or corporate branding.
