Job Purpose

The Deputy Director, Placement & Industry Linkage is responsible for overseeing student placement, establishing and maintaining industry linkages, negotiating employment opportunities with maritime companies, and ensuring graduates are prepared for the job market and entrepreneurship. This role is ideal for professionals seeking maritime education leadership jobs, placement officer positions, and industry liaison roles in maritime training institutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Negotiate sea-time opportunities for students with maritime operators.
  • Develop and maintain linkages with public and private stakeholders to advance graduate placement.
  • Negotiate employment opportunities for BMA graduates with major international shipping companies.
  • Manage and coordinate student and trainer exchange programs.
  • Ensure graduates are holistically prepared for professional and entrepreneurial roles.
  • Establish and maintain a database of students and graduates for tracking and reporting purposes.
  • Collaborate with the CEO on scholarship and sponsorship opportunities.
  • Develop Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) for placement and internship programs.
  • Ensure recognition of BMA certificates internationally through liaison with relevant authorities.
  • Coordinate with the National Employment Authority and other government agencies for student placement nationally and internationally.
  • Market BMA graduates to employers locally, regionally, and internationally.
  • Oversee staff development within the Division, appraise staff, and coordinate performance management.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marine Engineering, Nautical Science, Maritime Logistics, Education, Development Studies, Marketing, Communication, International Relations, or equivalent.
  • Master’s Degree in Maritime Logistics, Education, Development Studies, Marketing, Communication, International Relations, or equivalent.
  • Qualifications in accordance with STCW 78 of the conventions amended, including Certificate of Competence (CoC), Chief Engineer, or Master Mariner (II/2 or III/2).
  • Minimum of fifteen (15) years relevant work experience, including at least three (3) years at Assistant Director, Placement & Industry Linkage or comparable role.
  • Registration with relevant professional bodies.
  • Completion of a recognized leadership course of at least four (4) weeks.
  • Proficiency in computer applications and digital tools.
