Job Description
The Driver III position is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of staff, documents, and goods as authorized by the Authority. The role requires an individual with strong driving skills, discipline, and a good understanding of traffic laws and vehicle maintenance. The Driver will ensure vehicle safety, cleanliness, and reliability while adhering to SHA’s transport and fleet management policies.
This position reports to a senior administrative officer and plays a key role in ensuring smooth logistics operations and dependable service delivery within the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Driving official vehicle(s) as authorized for staff, goods, or documents transportation.
- Conducting routine checks on assigned vehicle(s) to identify maintenance needs and reporting any mechanical issues promptly.
- Maintaining accurate vehicle mileage logs and completing daily work tickets for all assigned trips.
- Ensuring security and safety of the vehicle, passengers, and cargo both on and off the road.
- Keeping valid insurance and inspection documents up-to-date and safely stored in the vehicle.
- Ensuring all necessary vehicle tools and accessories (toolbox, first aid kit, fire extinguisher, umbrella, and spotlight) are available and functional at all times.
- Taking vehicles for scheduled servicing and ensuring proper fueling as per fleet management procedures.
- Adhering strictly to the Traffic Act and SHA’s policies on vehicle use, safety, and reporting.
- Reporting any incidents or accidents involving the vehicle immediately in accordance with established guidelines.
- Maintaining vehicle cleanliness, both interior and exterior, ensuring the vehicle is in optimal condition before each trip.
Required Qualifications
- Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade D plain or equivalent qualification recognized in Kenya.
- Valid driving license free from current endorsement(s) for the class(es) of vehicles assigned.
- Successfully passed the Suitability Test for Drivers.
- Valid Certificate of Good Conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
- First Aid Certificate lasting at least one (1) week from St. John Ambulance, KIHBT, or another recognized institution.
- Minimum of two (2) years proven driving experience in a reputable organization.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience driving senior officials or operating in a government or corporate environment.
- Knowledge of basic vehicle mechanics and preventive maintenance.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
- Strong sense of responsibility, punctuality, and discipline.
