The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations is seeking a dynamic and experienced professional to serve as the FAO Representative in Kenya. This senior-level position offers a unique opportunity to lead crucial initiatives in sustainable agriculture, food security, and rural development in one of East Africa’s most important agricultural hubs.
About the Role:
The FAO Representative (FAOR) plays a pivotal role in managing and implementing FAO’s country programme in Kenya. This position requires a visionary leader who can effectively represent FAO, build strong partnerships, and drive impactful initiatives to address Kenya’s agricultural challenges and contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Key Responsibilities:
1. Strategic Leadership and Representation:
- – Represent FAO to national authorities, partners, and stakeholders
- – Advocate for FAO’s policy positions in relevant national forums
- – Lead FAO’s contributions to the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF)
- – Implement a proactive communications strategy to raise awareness of FAO’s work
2. Programme Development and Implementation:
- – Lead the development and operationalization of the Country Programming Framework (CPF)
- – Oversee the effective implementation of FAO programmes and projects
- – Ensure timely reporting and monitoring of results
- – Provide leadership on food security and agriculture policy matters
3. Partnership Building and Resource Mobilization:
- – Establish effective partnerships with governments, donors, civil society, and international organizations
- – Lead country-level mobilization of extrabudgetary resources
- – Support joint UN resource mobilization efforts
4. Office and Resource Management:
- – Manage the Country Office, ensuring efficient use of human and financial resources
- – Oversee security and safety matters for FAO personnel
- – Promote staff development and welfare
- – Implement effective internal control mechanisms
5. Emergency Response and Coordination:
- – Lead overall emergency response preparedness and coordination at the country level
- – Collaborate with the UN Country Team and Humanitarian Country Team on cluster/sector activities
Requirements:
- – Advanced university degree in agriculture, forestry, fishery, rural development, or related field
- – Minimum 12 years of relevant experience in planning, formulating, implementing, and evaluating field programmes
- – Proven experience in managing country field programmes and technical cooperation projects
- – Strong track record in resource mobilization and partnership building
- – Excellent leadership and communication skills
- – Proficiency in English and intermediate knowledge of another FAO official language
