Finance Intern – Job Summary

Role Purpose

The Finance Intern will be an integral part of the finance team, providing day-to-day support in ensuring accurate and timely financial processing. This role is essential to maintaining smooth financial operations, including payment processing, invoice reconciliation, and documentation support. This internship will offer hands-on experience in NGO financial systems, ideal for recent graduates looking for accounting internships in Kenya or graduate finance jobs in humanitarian organizations.

Key Reporting Line

Reports to: Finance Coordinator

Key Responsibilities

Financial Accounting & Treasury

  • Review documentation on the ProSave platform to support invoice reconciliation.
  • Prepare and authorize M-Pesa payment vouchers.
  • Assist in filing and archiving of finance documents to ensure quick retrieval and data security.
  • Prepare General Ledger and Cash Offline Spreadsheets (GLACOS) with accuracy in coding.
  • Support with bank reconciliations and processing of statutory payroll deductions.
  • Upload finance documents into the Document Management System (DMS).
  • Assist in balance sheet account reconciliations and adjustment journal preparation.
  • Cooperate with internal and external auditors as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with Save the Children International’s financial rules and policies.

Administrative & Support Duties

  • Upload manual payments in ProSave and follow up on approval workflows.
  • Ensure timely and systematic archiving of financial documentation.
  • Carry out any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • At least 1 year of experience in finance or accounting, preferably in a not-for-profit setting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Office applications.
  • Familiarity with accounting software and computerized financial systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage a heavy workload and meet deadlines.
  • Strong integrity and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for training and support roles.
  • Professional certification or partial completion of an accounting course is a plus.
