Job Purpose
The Finance Officer, Financial Reporting (Business Analyst 1) assists in implementing accounting standards and regulatory requirements, ensuring integrity of financial data, and supporting the preparation of audited financial statements. Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Responsibilities:
- Ensure integrity of accounting systems and financial data.
- Provide technical assistance on accounting matters.
- Assist in preparation of audited financial statements.
- Technical and Operational Responsibilities:
- Reconcile imported general ledger (GL) files against third-party systems daily and resolve variances.
- Initiate journal entries in accordance with established procedures.
- Undertake month-end closure activities and follow up on module closures before general ledger closure.
- Perform sanity checks of trial balances and monthly GL reconciliations, escalating outstanding items as necessary.
- Review reconciliations from partner business areas, including Banking & Payments, Financial Markets, and Currency Operations.
- Support internal and external audits, addressing audit issues promptly.
- Process reimbursement letters and follow up on payments in accordance with work policies and SLAs.
- Prepare and monitor departmental budgets, annual procurement plans, and variance reports.
- Assist in preparation of audited financial statements by providing audit schedules and necessary information.
- Represent Finance Department on project teams to ensure new products, functionalities, and process improvements are correctly implemented.
- Perform any other roles and responsibilities assigned by the supervisor.
- Other Responsibilities:
- Assist Deputy Manager, Financial Reporting and Manager, Financial Reporting in achieving sectional objectives.
- Stay updated on changes in financial regulations, IFRS, and policies and inform section leadership.
- Assist in interdepartmental activities, such as tender openings and evaluations.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Management, Economics, Finance, or related discipline from a reputable university.
- Professional accounting qualification (CPA, ACCA, or equivalent).
- Minimum of 3 years post-qualification experience in a busy accounting environment with exposure to financial reporting roles in Kenya, general ledger reconciliation jobs, and audited financial statement preparation.
Technical Competencies
- Strong understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
- Good understanding of financial reporting requirements and regulatory compliance.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Experience with accounting systems and ERP modules.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and reporting skills.
