About the Position
Google is seeking an experienced Head of Communications and Public Affairs to lead their communications strategy across Sub-Saharan Africa. This senior leadership role offers an exciting opportunity to shape Google’s narrative and impact in one of the world’s most dynamic regions.
Position Overview
The Head of Communications and Public Affairs will be responsible for leading all aspects of Google’s communications strategy in Sub-Saharan Africa, from consumer products to business platforms and proactive programs. This role combines strategic leadership with hands-on communications management, requiring both vision and execution capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- – Develop and maintain relationships with key social influencers, journalists, and partners
- – Create and implement comprehensive communication strategies
- – Lead external communications channels and content development
- – Serve as Google’s spokesperson for media inquiries
- – Manage and develop a team of communications professionals
Content Development
- – Create strategic communications materials including:
– Story pitches and press releases
– Messaging guidelines
– Presentations and speeches
– Blog posts and social media content
– Q&A documents
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- – Work with Product, Business, and Marketing teams
- – Partner with Public Policy and other internal stakeholders
- – Coordinate with external agencies for special projects
- – Provide media training to company officials
Regional Impact
- – Drive communications initiatives across Sub-Saharan Africa
- – Counter misinformation affecting business operations
- – Support Google’s growth and success in the region
- – Build and maintain local media relationships
Required Qualifications
- – Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience
- – 10+ years of communications experience in business, social media, or similar environment
- – Proven experience in international communications
- – Track record of success in fast-paced environments
- – Experience developing social media campaigns in Sub-Saharan Africa
Preferred Qualifications
- – Team management experience
- – Proficiency in Sub-Saharan African languages (Swahili, Hausa, Zulu)
- – Experience with tech industry communications
- – Strong project management capabilities
