Your Role in Head Steward (Kitchen)

As Head Steward, you will lead the stewarding team to maintain cleanliness, hygiene, and safety across all training kitchens. You’ll support our mission of excellence in hospitality education by ensuring that all cleaning and operational protocols are upheld.

Main Duties for This Culinary Job Opportunity

  • Supervise kitchen stewarding staff and delegate daily cleaning schedules.
  • Maintain hygiene standards and cleanliness across training kitchens and related areas.
  • Support chefs with kitchen prep and equipment arrangements when necessary.
  • Monitor proper usage of cleaning agents and sanitizing equipment.
  • Conduct stocktakes of cleaning equipment, utensils, and inventory.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
  • Minimize breakages of kitchenware and enforce loss prevention procedures.
  • Uphold health and safety standards for the food processing environment.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Culinary Lead or management.

Qualifications for Stewarding Jobs in Hospitality Institutions in Kenya

Skills and Competencies

  • Previous experience as a Head Steward or in a similar leadership role in kitchen environments.
  • Excellent communication and team management skills.
  • Ability to multitask and remain calm in high-pressure environments.
  • Commitment to high hygiene and safety standards.

Education and Experience

  • Diploma in Hospitality, Culinary Arts, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience managing kitchen stewarding operations.
  • Strong understanding of kitchen workflows and sanitation regulations.
  • Proven track record of leadership in a hotel or institutional kitchen setup.
