Position Overview
The British Council Kenya is seeking professional IELTS Speaking Examiners for their Nairobi center. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to international education while working with one of the world’s most recognized English language testing systems.
Location
- – Nairobi, Kenya
- – Position Type: Hourly rate basis
- – Eligibility: Must have existing right to live and work in Kenya
Primary Responsibilities
Assessment Duties
- – Conduct IELTS Speaking module examinations
- – Evaluate and mark IELTS Speaking tests according to standardized criteria
- – Maintain consistent assessment standards as per IELTS Professional Support Network (PSN) guidelines
- – Participate in other British Council examinations (subject to certification)
Professional Development
- – Maintain current examiner certification
- – Attend mandatory examiner training sessions
- – Participate in standardization workshops
- – Engage in examiner meetings and professional development activities
Quality Assurance
- – Adhere to IELTS PSN and British Council policies
- – Stay updated with IELTS developments and best practices
- – Maintain professional presentation and conduct
- – Implement Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) principles
Administrative Requirements
- – Manage examination-related information according to data protection principles
- – Comply with British Council’s information management standards
- – Follow Child Protection and Health & Safety protocols
Required Qualifications
Education
- – Undergraduate or Master’s degree from an accredited institution
- – Recognized TESOL qualification as part of a university award course
Experience
- – Minimum 3 years full-time TESOL teaching experience (or equivalent part-time)
- – Substantial experience teaching adult students (16+ years)
- – At least one year post-certification teaching experience

Important Notes
- – Full-time teaching is defined as minimum 14 hours of in-person teaching weekly
- – Freelance and volunteer teaching experience not considered
- – All qualifications must be validated by reputable institutions
- – Additional documentation may be requested to verify qualifications
