One Acre Fund is currently seeking experienced Internal Audit Managers to join their team in Kenya. This critical role will focus on managing and executing audits related to inventory controls, system processes, and overall business operations to support the organization’s mission of empowering smallholder farmers across Africa. The successful candidates will play a pivotal role in ensuring the effectiveness and efficiency of internal controls that ultimately support sustainable agricultural development.

Founded in 2006, One Acre Fund has grown to serve 5.5 million smallholder farmers across nine African countries, representing two-thirds of the continent’s farming population. Through their comprehensive support model, they provide farmers with high-quality agricultural inputs, tree seedlings, accessible credit solutions, modern agronomic training, and various other essential services that enable farmers to thrive.

This impactful approach has consistently enabled farmers to increase their income and assets by more than 35 percent on supported land, while building long-term resilience against climate and economic challenges. This transformative work is made possible by a dedicated team of over 9,000 full-time staff members drawn from diverse backgrounds and professional disciplines.

Internal Audit Manager Role Overview

One Acre Fund is currently looking to fill two Internal Audit Manager positions within their dedicated Internal Audit (IA) team. These professionals will join a group of in-country and global function specialists committed to ensuring the effectiveness and efficiency of internal controls throughout the organization’s operations in Africa.

As an IA Manager, you will oversee critical audits focused on inventory controls, revenue verification, system processes, and comprehensive business/financial operating procedures. You’ll lead a section of the IA team, directly managing 2-3 staff members, while reporting to the Senior Finance Director. This position is based onsite in either Nairobi, Kenya or Kigali, Rwanda, with regular field travel required to agricultural operation sites.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership and Internal Controls Management
  • Lead a specialized team responsible for evaluating the design and operational effectiveness of internal control systems across agricultural operations
  • Identify weaknesses in internal controls and develop comprehensive recommendations for corrective actions
  • Develop and maintain a robust framework for continuously monitoring internal control systems
  • Assess business and financial risks specific to agricultural operations and implement effective mitigation strategies
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, accounting standards, and organizational policies across multiple countries
Systems Auditing and Process Evaluation
  • Lead comprehensive audits of internal systems including ERP, POS, and inventory management software
  • Perform detailed risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities and opportunities for system optimization
  • Assess controls surrounding the interaction of human and technology-driven processes in agricultural operations
  • Recommend process re-engineering opportunities to enhance efficiency and effectiveness
  • Develop audit plans and methodologies appropriate for agricultural sector operations
Agricultural Inventory and Operation Audits
  • Design and implement specialized audits for agricultural inputs, seeds, and farming equipment
  • Verify inventory management practices across distribution networks serving smallholder farmers
  • Assess revenue collection processes from farmer repayments and other operational activities
  • Evaluate field operations for adherence to organizational standards and protocols
  • Develop recommendations for improving agricultural business processes and controls

Qualifications and Requirements

Education and Professional Certification

  • Master’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration or related field
  • Professional certification such as CIA (Certified Internal Auditor) or ACCA
  • Additional specialized certifications in risk management or audit are advantageous

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 8+ years of work experience in internal audit functions
  • At least 3 years of experience within any of One Acre Fund’s countries of operation
  • Demonstrated experience with risk-based auditing methodologies
  • Experience auditing control environments undergoing transitions to new technology systems
  • Specific experience performing internal audits of inventory in manufacturing or retail environments
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience successfully leading and managing teams
  • Background in agricultural operations or related field experience is highly desirable

  • Effective communication skills for conveying complex audit findings
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-cultural environments

This role is based in either Nairobi, Kenya or Kigali, Rwanda, with regular travel to field operations required.
