About Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB)
The Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) is Kenya’s National Medicines Regulatory Authority, established under the Pharmacy and Poisons Act, Chapter 244 of the Laws of Kenya. PPB is mandated to regulate the practice of pharmacy and oversee the manufacture, importation, exportation, distribution, and trade of medical products and health technologies to ensure public health and patient safety.
As part of its strategic mandate, PPB is implementing institutional reforms supported by the World Bank under the Health Emergency Preparedness, Response and Resilience Project for Eastern and Southern Africa. The objective of this initiative is to strengthen PPB’s regulatory systems and achieve WHO Global Benchmarking Tool (GBT) Maturity Level Three (ML.3), enhancing Kenya’s medicines regulatory capacity at national and regional levels.

Internal Auditor and Risk Assurance Officer – Role Overview
The Internal Auditor and Risk Assurance Officer will support the Internal Audit and Risk function in delivering independent, objective assurance and advisory services. This role focuses on strengthening internal controls, supporting risk assessment processes, enhancing quality management systems, and ensuring compliance with established policies, procedures, and regulatory frameworks.

Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the development, review, and continuous updating of the Internal Audit Manual in line with best audit practices.
- Support the preparation and drafting of audit assignment plans, audit programs, and audit scopes.
- Coordinate and participate in preliminary audit reviews of systems, processes, and operational areas.
- Assist in ensuring sound internal control systems, policies, and procedures are established and functioning effectively.
- Support the implementation of quality management systems across PPB operations.
- Maintain accurate internal audit records, working papers, and audit reports in compliance with professional standards.
- Verify, analyze, and review periodic financial returns and operational reports.
- Participate in the review and evaluation of internal control frameworks and risk mitigation measures.
- Prepare and update systems and operational audit checklists.
- Actively participate in the enterprise risk assessment process.
- Assist in the development and updating of organizational risk registers.
- Support the execution of systems audits and operational audits.
- Carry out regular compliance checks on systems, processes, and procedures.
- Provide audit support to both Nairobi headquarters and regional offices as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Commerce (Accounting or Finance option), Business Administration (Accounting option), or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
- Professional membership with ICPAK (Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya) or IIA (Institute of Internal Auditors).
- Strong computer literacy and proficiency in audit, accounting, and office productivity tools.
- Demonstrated analytical, reporting, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya on leadership and integrity.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in public sector internal audit or regulatory institutions.
- Exposure to risk-based auditing, systems audit, or operational audit.
- Knowledge of quality management systems and compliance frameworks.
- Familiarity with World Bank–funded projects or donor-funded programs.
- Experience working in health sector, regulatory, or government institutions.
Salary and Compensation
- Basic Salary: KES 63,547 per month
- House Allowance: KES 35,000 per month
- Commuter Allowance: KES 8,000 per month
- Gross Monthly Salary: KES 106,547
