Internship – Climate/Sustainability Finance and Capacity Building

UNICEF’s Eastern and Southern Africa Regional Office (ESARO) is seeking a dedicated intern to support their Climate Hub in increasing climate finance and building capacity around climate, sustainability, and climate finance opportunities. This internship offers a unique chance to contribute to UNICEF’s vital work in addressing climate change and its impact on children in the region.

Key Responsibilities

The intern will work under the supervision of the Climate Specialist in the ESARO Climate & Sustainability Section, with responsibilities including:

1. Climate Finance Capacity Building:

  • – Support the development of climate finance capacity-building initiatives, such as clinics and webinars
  • – Assist in creating learning and training materials focused on climate finance and funding opportunities
  • – Contribute to the development of concept notes and proposals in collaboration with Country Offices (COs), Regional Office (RO), and Headquarters (HQ)

2. Research and Mapping:

  • – Conduct mapping exercises related to climate finance and capacity building
  • – Keep the Climate Hub SharePoint and newsletters updated with current and future climate finance opportunities and deadlines

3. Knowledge Management and Communication:

  • – Develop presentations, speaking points, and other communication materials
  • – Support the creation of Terms of Reference (TORs) for various projects and initiatives

4. Coordination and Support:

  • – Provide assistance to ESARO Partnerships colleagues on climate finance-related tasks
  • – Contribute to ad hoc coordination, evidence generation, and communication tasks as needed

Requirements

Education:

  • – Enrolled in or recently graduated from a master’s degree program in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Climate Finance, Environmental Policy, Communications, International Development, or a related field

Skills and Experience:

  • – Strong academic performance, demonstrated by recent university records
  • – Proficiency in English (French or Spanish is a plus)
  • – Familiarity with climate change issues, sustainability concepts, and international development
  • – Excellent research and analytical skills
  • – Strong written and verbal communication abilities
  • – Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, particularly PowerPoint and Excel

Additional Information

  • – Interns receive a stipend fully covered by UNICEF ESARO
  • – Health insurance coverage is required and must be provided by the intern
  • – UNICEF supports visa applications but interns are responsible for obtaining necessary visas
  • – This internship does not lead to expectation of employment with UNICEF
