Legal Manager – FAK

Absa bank is hiring a talented Legal Manager to join their Claims Department. This role is responsible for providing legal counsel, coordinating operations with external advocates, negotiating settlements for third-party claims, and pursuing recoveries on behalf of the company.

Key Responsibilities:

• – Litigation Management: Receive summons, determine liability, appoint service providers, review legal claims, instruct external lawyers, engage in negotiations, review judgments, and recommend settlements or appeals.
• – Policy Development and Advisory: Review internal policies, interpret laws and regulations, provide legal guidance, and monitor regulatory changes.
• – Regulatory Compliance: Identify and mitigate legal risks, liaise with departments, monitor regulatory changes, support operational compliance, and prepare reports.
• – Operations: Lead and develop the legal team, maintain documentation, review outstanding claims, provide legal advice, review and develop policies, promote best practices, draft and review documents, and manage projects.

Requirements:

• – Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognized institution
• – Certified Public Secretary (CPS) with a valid practicing certificate
• – Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with a current practicing certificate
• – Registered member of the Law Society of Kenya in good standing
• – Minimum 7 years of legal experience in insurance/financial institutions, with expertise in Commercial Law, Litigation, and Conveyance
• – Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage workload
• – Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• – Team leadership and collaboration abilities
