Key Responsibilities
The UI/UX Designer will undertake a comprehensive range of strategic, research, and design execution responsibilities that span the entire product lifecycle:
Strategic Design Leadership

- Recommend new design tools and technologies by staying current with the latest trends and techniques in product design, mobile UX, and fintech user experience
Product Discovery and Problem Definition
- Collaborate closely with product leads, stakeholders, and development teams to define clear problem statements, establish success metrics, and identify product opportunities
- Host and facilitate workshops with product teams, stakeholders, and developers for continuous product discovery, focusing on identified problems and opportunities
- Identify and understand customer needs, behaviors, pain points, and aspirations through various research methodologies
- Use discovery methods such as rapid prototyping, usability testing, focus groups, and user interviews to validate solutions with real customers before development begins
- Translate complex user needs into elegant, intuitive, and effective design solutions that balance user desires with business objectives
UX Research and Data-Driven Design
- Work with product teams on defining clear success metrics, crafting A/B tests, and analyzing results to enable data-driven design decisions
- Conduct comprehensive user research including interviewing users, setting up surveys and usability tests, and interpreting both qualitative and quantitative results
- Deliver and communicate insights collected from user research through effective and engaging presentations, user journey maps, and research reports
- Ensure design decisions have a positive, measurable impact on user experience metrics and business KPIs
- Continuously validate design assumptions through testing and iteration, embracing a culture of experimentation and learning
Design Delivery (UX/UI/Visual)
- Deliver comprehensive design artifacts including wireframes, user journeys, low and high fidelity prototypes, and final UI design specifications for online portals and mobile applications
- Create pixel-perfect visual designs that adhere to both Apple’s Human Interface Guidelines and Google’s Material Design principles
- Work collaboratively with various product teams to ensure visual consistency throughout the platform by leveraging from and contributing to M-Pesa’s design system
- Conceptualize and develop engaging micro-interactions, demo videos, and animations that enhance user experience and delight customers
- Ensure designs work seamlessly across M-Pesa’s multiple markets and languages, accommodating diverse user contexts and cultural considerations
- Own and advocate for platform accessibility in both UX and UI, ensuring products are inclusive and usable by all customers
- Translate design journeys into compelling product demo videos that effectively communicate design vision to stakeholders and development teams
- Work in a fast-paced environment alongside engineers, product managers, and product designers to deliver impactful solutions across online portals and mobile apps
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with product and engineering leaders to ensure design deliverables are well-defined, provide high business value, and are successfully executed
- Work closely with developers during implementation to ensure designs are built according to specifications and maintain design integrity
- Effectively communicate and persuade stakeholders around design concepts, using clear rationale and user research to support design decisions
- Contribute to post-release optimization through monitoring user feedback, analytics, and continuous improvement initiatives
Required Qualifications
Educational Background
- Bachelor’s Degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, or related field from a recognized institution
- Formal education or certification in UX design, interaction design, or visual design is highly valued
Professional Experience for Mobile UX Designer Roles
- Five to eight (5-8) years of professional experience in UX Design with a proven track record of successfully shipped mobile app consumer-oriented experiences
- Demonstrated experience across the entire product design cycle including UX research, copywriting, wireframing, prototyping, final UI design (visual design), implementation support, and post-release optimization
- Strong portfolio showcasing knowledge of native mobile UI design with detailed case studies that explain your design process, research methods, and problem-solving approach

Technical Design Skills
