Medical Laboratory Officer Job Description – Medical Laboratory Jobs in Nairobi

The Medical Laboratory Officer will provide professional laboratory diagnostic services by receiving, processing, analyzing, and reporting patient specimens in accordance with established laboratory standards. The successful candidate will contribute to accurate diagnosis, treatment planning, and quality assurance while maintaining high standards of laboratory practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive and verify laboratory request forms and patient specimens for testing.
  • Prepare patients for specimen collection and ensure proper sample handling procedures.
  • Collect, label, register, and process patient specimens according to approved laboratory protocols.
  • Prepare laboratory reagents, stains, and other materials required for diagnostic testing.
  • Examine specimens, interpret findings, and accurately record laboratory results.
  • Recruit, prepare, and bleed blood donors for transfusion services.
  • Perform blood grouping and screen for transfusion-transmissible infections.
  • Store blood and blood products according to established safety requirements.
  • Issue blood and blood products to peripheral healthcare facilities as required.
  • Collect laboratory data, prepare reports, and process all specimens according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Required Qualifications – Medical Laboratory Careers in Kenya

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences or an equivalent qualification from an institution recognized by the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB).
  • Valid Registration Certificate issued by the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board.
  • Valid practicing license from the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board.
  • Proficiency in computer applications.
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory diagnostics, quality assurance, blood transfusion services, and laboratory safety procedures.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, organizational, and documentation skills.
