New Business Consultant

Absa is looking for a New Business Consultant responsible for end-to-end underwriting of retail insurance products, implementing company underwriting best practices, and ensuring compliance with IRA guidelines and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Underwriting Process Management (60%)

• – Manage daily new business/underwriting operations within set turnaround times
• – Reconcile application forms across physical, soft copy, and digital channels
• – Transcribe applications into workflow systems
• – Manage incomplete applications and sales stationery distribution
• – Coordinate document archiving and retrieval
• – Ensure timely reporting to stakeholders and handle medical underwriting

2. Customer Service and Stakeholder Engagement (20%)

• – Adhere to query and complaint response standards
• – Implement Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) principles
• – Provide technical support to various departments
• – Attend industry engagements for innovation and best practices

3. Reinsurance Liaison (10%)

• – Process full underwriting for retail products
• – Prepare monthly reinsurance bordereaux
• – Review special underwriting cases
• – Handle settlement of medical invoices

4. Control Environment and Operational Standards (10%)

• – Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies
• – Maintain knowledge of agreements and execute monitoring and evaluation
• – Adhere to Absa query and complaint management processes

Requirements:

• – Further Education and Training Certificate (FETC) in Business, Commerce and Management Studies
• – Strong understanding of insurance underwriting processes
• – Excellent customer service and communication skills
• – Ability to work with various stakeholders and meet deadlines
• – Knowledge of regulatory requirements in the insurance industry
