O&M Team Lead – Senior Manager Job Description

The O&M Team Lead – Senior Manager is accountable for achieving world-class operational excellence across Equity Group’s core platform and integrations. Reporting to senior leadership, this role ensures operational readiness for production deployments, leads the transformation from reactive to automated code-driven operations, and balances change velocity with platform stability in a high-demand environment. Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Operations & Reliability Excellence: Establish strategic vision and framework for the “1-5-10” operational mandate across all DFS Technical Operations teams, defining success metrics, monitoring frameworks, and reporting mechanisms for rapid detection (1 minute), investigation (5 minutes), and remediation (10 minutes).
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership during critical incidents, coordinating senior-level response and decision-making for high-impact scenarios.
  • SRE & Automation Transformation: Drive proactive, automated, code-driven practices, champion investment in self-healing infrastructure, and set technical priorities balancing quick wins with long-term goals.
  • Strategically allocate the OPEX budget, approving high-impact automation solutions prior to production deployment.
  • Platform Stability & Availability: Own accountability for platform availability, performance, and security across the region, establishing observability standards and making critical technical decisions during incidents.
  • Service Management & Governance: Define enterprise-wide approach for Incident, Problem, Change, and technical debt management; establish SLA/OLA frameworks and enforce a blameless post-mortem culture.
  • Ensure operational and production deployment readiness; approve high-risk deployments, enforce pre-production validation standards, and maintain accountability for delivery teams.
  • Provide senior advisory input for all enterprise-level changes, assess cross-platform change risks, and coordinate with peer senior managers to prevent conflicts.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Conduct regular briefings on platform health, risk landscape, and operational performance, representing Technical Operations in executive forums and managing stakeholder expectations during incidents.
  • Technical Asset & Lifecycle Management: Establish standards for asset inventory, lifecycle management, and technical currency; oversee compliance with regional regulations and security standards, and define BC/DR strategies with RTOs and RPOs.
  • Vendor & Integration Leadership: Manage vendor relationships, conduct performance reviews, lead build-vs-buy discussions, approve contracts, and oversee integration partner performance.
  • Financial Management & Cost Optimization: Develop and optimize the OPEX budget, identify cost reduction opportunities, and report financial performance to executive leadership.
  • Center of Excellence & Standardization: Build and lead the Technical Operations CoE, standardizing operational procedures, tooling, monitoring frameworks, and runbooks across subsidiaries, and facilitating knowledge sharing.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Collaborate with DFS Configurations and Delivery teams to ensure seamless build-to-run handoffs, deployment planning, and operational readiness assessments.
  • People Leadership: Lead and mentor two direct report managers, set KPIs, drive succession planning, and foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and operational excellence.
  • Continuous Improvement & Innovation: Champion initiatives to improve operational efficiency, sponsor proof-of-concept projects, and balance current operations with future capability development.

Required Qualifications

  • 8-10 years of progressive technical operations, production support, or SRE experience, including 3-5 years in leadership managing 24/7 mission-critical environments.
  • 5-7 years operating financial services platforms, core banking, payment processing, or mobile money platforms with proven high availability and regulatory compliance experience.
  • Experience managing multi-country operations, navigating diverse regulations, and supporting multi-site or expansion initiatives.
  • Proven change leadership, including automation initiatives, process standardization, SRE adoption, and service management frameworks.
  • Vendor and partner ecosystem management experience, including performance reviews, multi-party incident coordination, and commercial negotiations.
  • Cross-functional leadership and stakeholder management experience across delivery, infrastructure, security, and business units.
  • Budget management experience, including planning, tracking, cost optimization, and reporting.
  • Incident and crisis management experience at scale for business-critical systems.

Academic Qualifications

  • University degree in Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • Relevant professional certifications such as ITIL Foundation or higher, AWS/Azure/GCP certifications demonstrating operational and technical expertise.
