Job Description
The Pharmaceutical Technologist will play a vital role in supporting Equity Afya’s clinical team by dispensing medication, maintaining accurate pharmacy records, and ensuring compliance with pharmaceutical standards and regulations. This role supports the facility’s commitment to effective patient care and service excellence. The successful candidate will work within a structured healthcare environment that emphasizes collaboration, accountability, and patient-centred service.
The position requires strong technical knowledge, experience with Health Management Information Systems (HMIS), and the ability to interact professionally with patients, clinicians, and other healthcare staff. The Pharmaceutical Technologist contributes to optimizing pharmaceutical workflows, enhancing patient safety, and ensuring the efficient management of medical supplies.
Key Responsibilities
- Dispense medication accurately and in accordance with prescriptions, treatment guidelines, and regulatory standards.
- Offer patient counselling on correct medication usage, potential side effects, and adherence to treatment plans.
- Maintain up-to-date pharmacy records using Health Management Information Systems and ensure accurate data entry.
- Monitor stock levels, manage inventory, and participate in ordering and replenishing pharmaceutical supplies.
- Ensure proper storage of medicines following standard temperature, safety, and handling protocols.
- Uphold Pharmacy and Poisons Board regulations in all pharmaceutical operations.
- Collaborate with healthcare teams to support seamless service delivery and patient satisfaction.
- Participate in quality assurance initiatives, audits, and continuous improvement programs.
Required Qualifications
- Degree in Pharmacy or a Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology from a recognized institution.
- At least 3 years post-internship working experience, preferably in a hospital or clinical setting.
- Valid registration and practicing license from the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.
- Proficiency in computer applications, particularly Health Management Information Systems (HMIS).
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a busy or high-volume pharmacy environment.
- Familiarity with healthcare operations within community or outpatient facilities.
- Additional training or certification in pharmaceutical inventory management.
- Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary clinical teams.
