Job Description

The Principal, Enterprise IoT & ICT Presales, Architecture & Integration will report to the Senior Manager – Enterprise IoT & ICT Presales, Architecture & Integration. The role holder will serve as a senior technical advisor, solution designer, and presales strategist supporting enterprise customers across Kenya and the wider East African region. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the Sales team to understand customer requirements, business objectives, and technical constraints. They will design and document end-to-end technical solutions leveraging Safaricom’s extensive portfolio, including Connectivity, Cloud & Hosting, IoT, Cybersecurity, Unified Communications, and Digital Services such as M-PESA APIs. The position also involves driving presales engagements, developing technical documentation, responding to RFPs and RFIs, and delivering technical presentations to enterprise customers.

This is a strategic, customer-facing role that requires exceptional technical expertise, communication skills, and the ability to translate complex technology concepts into actionable business solutions. The Principal will work cross-functionally with Product, Marketing, Engineering, and Project Management teams to influence product roadmaps, deliver customer insights, and support the continuous enhancement of Safaricom’s enterprise solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Sales teams to interpret customer requirements, business objectives, and technical challenges.
• Design and architect complete enterprise-grade ICT and IoT solutions using Safaricom’s product portfolio.
• Serve as a subject-matter expert across key domains, including Connectivity, Cloud & Hosting, Cybersecurity, IoT, Unified Communications, and Digital Services.
• Develop detailed technical documentation, including solution blueprints, architecture diagrams, and Bills of Materials (BOM).
• Lead presales engagements through presentations, workshops, demonstrations, and technical consultations.
• Prepare high-quality responses to RFIs, RFQs, and RFPs, ensuring technical accuracy and compliance.
• Conduct proof-of-concepts (POCs) and pilot deployments to validate and refine proposed solutions.
• Build and maintain strong enterprise customer relationships while providing ongoing technical guidance.
• Collaborate with Product, Marketing, and Project Management teams to influence product enhancements and go-to-market strategies.
• Mentor Sales teams on solution capabilities, architecture, and presales processes.
• Ensure all work aligns with Safaricom’s code of conduct, governance standards, and health and safety requirements.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• 3–5 years of experience in presales, solutions architecture, or systems engineering, ideally within telecommunications, MSP, or technology vendor environments.
• Strong understanding of core networking concepts: TCP/IP, DNS, VPN, LAN/WAN, SD-WAN.
• Hands-on experience in at least two technical domains: Cloud Computing, Cybersecurity, IoT platforms, Unified Communications.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of Agile principles and methodologies.
• Professional certifications such as CCNA/CCNP, AWS/Azure Architect, CEH, CISSP, or equivalent.
• Experience with API integration and basic understanding of software development principles.
• Strong understanding of the Kenyan and East African enterprise technology market.
• Experience with CRM tools (e.g., Salesforce) and diagramming tools (Visio, Lucidchart).

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in telecom-grade solution design and enterprise digital transformation initiatives.
• Ability to translate business requirements into detailed architectural specifications.
• Hands-on involvement in advanced cloud, cybersecurity, IoT, or unified communications architectures.
• Strong stakeholder management skills and experience engaging C-suite and enterprise technology leaders.
