Job Description
The Procurement Officer role is designed to support the Supply Chain Category Manager in delivering agreed objectives aligned with Equity Bank’s overall strategy. The position focuses on maximizing departmental efficiency and effectiveness, particularly in responding to IT procurement needs, while ensuring the procurement strategy delivers value to internal clients.
The role holder will work closely with cross-functional teams across the business to develop, implement, and manage the Information Technology category. This includes ensuring assurance of supply, quality, service excellence, competitive cost structures, and incremental savings throughout the product life cycle. Key Responsibilities
Category Governance
- Conduct regular strategic reviews to ensure category strategies remain aligned with market trends and business objectives.
- Promote diversity and inclusion by maintaining a broad and competitive supplier base.
- Leverage technology and data analytics to enhance category decision-making and performance tracking.
- Provide training and guidance to team members on category governance best practices and compliance standards.
Financial Management
- Develop scenario-based financial models to anticipate different market conditions and potential financial challenges.
- Implement risk mitigation strategies, including cost optimization, supplier diversification, and pricing adjustments.
- Evaluate capital investments to ensure optimal return on investment and reduced wastage.
- Prioritize spending decisions based on long-term value creation and sustainability.
Contracts Management
- Review and update contract clauses to reflect evolving business requirements, legal frameworks, and market conditions.
- Develop effective negotiation strategies for contract renewals to maximize value and minimize risk.
- Conduct periodic performance audits to ensure contract compliance and identify improvement opportunities.
- Collaborate closely with legal teams to ensure all contracts are compliant and legally sound.
Reporting and Internal Processes
- Implement automation tools to streamline reporting and internal processes.
- Introduce real-time analytics to support data-driven and agile decision-making.
- Strengthen internal audit processes to ensure regulatory compliance and process integrity.
- Establish structured feedback mechanisms to support continuous improvement.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Manage supplier performance through structured reviews and performance scorecards.
- Develop proactive communication plans to keep stakeholders informed of changes, risks, and improvements.
- Create and monitor customer-centric performance metrics, including satisfaction indicators such as Net Promoter Score (NPS).
- Support initiatives that strengthen supplier and internal stakeholder relationships.
Learning and Growth
- Encourage cross-functional training to enhance skills diversity and collaboration.
- Support the development of a centralized knowledge repository for best practices and lessons learned.
- Participate in succession planning initiatives to build long-term organizational capability.
Required Qualifications
- University degree in Supply Chain Management or a business-related field.
- Professional qualification with membership in KISM or CIPS.
- At least one (1) year of experience in a similar role within a medium or large organization.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting IT procurement categories.
- Exposure to category management and supplier performance management.
- Hands-on experience with ERP systems and procurement platforms.
