Quality Assurance Engineer

Kenya Airways PLC is seeking a Quality Assurance Engineer (QAE) to support regulatory compliance, aircraft maintenance standards and quality assurance within the Technical division in Nairobi. The role is responsible for audits, inspections, quality monitoring, regulatory documentation and maintaining an independent Quality System to support safe, reliable and airworthy aircraft operations.

Purpose

The Quality Assurance Engineer is responsible for ensuring regulatory requirements are upheld and that maintenance standards and organizational procedures are consistently applied to Kenya Airways and customer aircraft. The role supports the delivery of an airworthy, reliable and quality product in a cost-effective manner while maintaining an independent Quality System.

Responsibilities

• Conduct planned and ad-hoc audits, inspections, spot checks and surveys across Technical sections and prepare written reports.
• Assess data gathered during audits, inspections, spot checks and surveys, and communicate discrepancies to relevant section heads through formal reports.
• Document findings requiring corrective action and specify the applicable timelines for resolution.
• Follow up and verify audit closure actions and monitor the effectiveness of corrective measures through feedback and direct surveillance.
• Log reported occurrences into the Quality Assurance database, review and classify them, and report applicable occurrences to KCAA, EASA, customer Civil Aviation Authorities or operators.
• Participate in incident investigations under the guidance of the SQAE.
• Review authorization applications and participate in approval examinations under the guidance of the SQAE.
• Prepare, monitor and update records of certifying staff with all required information.
• Prepare applications to the relevant Authority and collect required data for CoA, CoR and radio licence certificate issuance and renewal.
• Prepare Quality Assurance airworthiness statistics as required and provide safety-related data to the SQAE.
• Maintain databases of maintenance approvals issued to Kenya Airways by Civil Aviation Authorities, airlines and certification bodies such as IOSA and KENAS, monitor their validity and recommend and initiate renewal processes.
• Maintain a database of KCAA approvals issued to organizations conducting maintenance on Kenya Airways aircraft and parts.
• Process and make available aircraft-related documentation and certificates.
• Perform other duties within the Quality Assurance Section as directed by the Quality Manager, Lead/PQAE/SQAE.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Aeronautical, Mechanical, Electrical or Electronics Engineering.
• Knowledge of using standard aircraft manuals and engineering procedures manuals.
• Conversant with relevant regulatory requirements.
• Basic knowledge of aircraft systems.
• Completion of a graduate trainee programme or equivalent, or a relevant engineering degree with at least 3 years of aviation engineering experience.
• Alternatively, a Diploma in a relevant Engineering field with at least 5 years of aviation maintenance experience.
• Fully conversant with relevant technical procedures.
• Basic knowledge of audit processes and root cause analysis.
• Demonstrated experience in report writing.
• Basic knowledge of industrial safety standards.
• Conversant with relevant IT tools and systems.
