Kenya Airways PLC is seeking an Equipment Operator (MOMBASA) to support safe, secure and efficient ground operations in Mombasa. The role involves operating ground support equipment (GSE), supporting passenger movement and maintaining service standards in line with company procedures, regulatory requirements and customer airline expectations.

Purpose

The Equipment Operator is responsible for maintaining a healthy, safe and secure working environment while complying with relevant industry regulations, legislation, company procedures, regulatory authorities and customer airline requirements. The position operates ground support equipment in accordance with approved operating procedures while maintaining safe and secure work practices.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a positive safety culture and a healthy, secure working environment in passenger services in line with company, legislative and industry standards.
• Identify and report hazards, near misses, incidents and accidents, and lead mitigation briefings where required.
• Provide efficient and high-quality customer service to customer airlines at operational touch points in accordance with Service Level Agreements and company policies.
• Support smooth and effective arrival, departure and transfer of passengers at the airport.
• Plan the safe and secure deployment of buses based on arrival and departure requirements to support on-time performance and minimize passenger waiting times.
• Monitor bus serviceability and activate the fallback plan when a bus becomes unavailable.
• Ensure buses are used only for their intended purpose and are safely operated on the ramp in accordance with company procedures.
• Report non-compliance to the line manager for corrective action.
• Complete daily checklists to determine equipment serviceability and maintain bus cleanliness.
• Conduct standard checks for articles left behind by passengers and follow the required reporting mechanism.
• Ensure pre-recorded announcements are available in buses and used appropriately.
• Ensure passengers are transported to legally agreed drop-off and pick-up points within the airport.
• Park buses in designated areas to help prevent accidents and injuries.
• Contribute to the development of the KQ product portfolio by supporting service standards for third-party and customer airlines.
• Maintain grooming standards in accordance with corporate uniform guidelines.
• Take responsibility for the safety and security of passengers and the bus.
• Adhere to KQ WAY principles and best practices.

Qualifications

• Relevant Certificate or Diploma course.
• Minimum “O” level Grade D+.
• Valid driving licence covering categories ABCDE.
• Endorsement for Class G by NTSA.
• Ground Handling Equipment Certificate.
• Equipment Operator Training: Level I – Tractor/Pallet Mover; Level II – All GSE except Pushback; Level III – All GSE.
• Radio Telephonic Certificate for Level III operators.
• Airside Driving certification.
• Airside Safety Awareness certification.
• Aviation Security Awareness certification.
• Dangerous Goods CAT 8 certification.
• Safety Management System (SMS) Awareness certification.
• Proficiency in operating ramp equipment, including pushback equipment.
